When you are sewing heavier weight fabrics or multiple layers of fabric you will need a stronger needle.  A 100 or 110 needle will have less chance of breaking.  Click here for a quick video on changing the needle.

Interfacing is what gives your bag shape and allows it to stand.  Find out about different interfacings used in bag making.  Plastic canvas can also be used as an interfacing. See here

Getting a few specialist tools will making your bag sewing experience easier - especially a zipper foot.  But you can make bags with just basic tools - including inserting zips.

This is a selection of classic bag shapes.  We will sew a few of these.

A fold and stitch strap is great for making lanyards (see project video here).  I also used it on the x-body mobile phone bag project (click here).  Its simple to make and useful.  Attach the strap using a box stitch square.  

Making and turning a tube is an easy way to make a wide strap for your bag.  Check out the video to see how!

A patch pocket can be inserted on the outside or in the lining of a bag.  Watch this short to see how easy it is.
