The Beginners Sewing course covers everything from opening the box to sewing a seam. The course is in two parts with sewing projects for each section.
Everyone learns differently. The Beginners Sewing Course has videos to watch as well as a FREE downloadable step-by-step guide. Sheila can be contacted by email if further support is required.
You can study the course at your own pace but you should aim to sew regularly, even for a short period, so that you can learn the routines of sewing.
As well as your sewing machine you will need some tools such as a pair of scissors. The tool kit requirement is kept to minimum. Sewing practises can be carried out on copier paper or kitchen roll. Suggestions are made for scavenging fabric already in the home.
The sewing process in the Beginners Course is sew-press-sew-press. The Beginners Projects built on the skills in the course including straight seams, pivoting, and basic hand stitching.
Sheila teaches the values of SUSTAINABILITY including upcycling, recycling, and re-purposing of fabric. Scavenging for tools, notions and haberdashery is also encouraged. Alternatives for tools and for fabrics are discussed.
